Introduction
●
WID is a kind of hydrodynamic energy saving device, which consist of two aerofoil sectioned half ring ducts integrated to the ship stern in front of upper region of the propeller. WID is assumed that improving the homogeneity of wake into the propeller which will improve the propulsion efficiency.
●
The expected power reduction of WID is in range of 3%~7%.
Hydrodynamic Mechanism
●
Produce additional thrust on the ducts induced by the propeller.
●
Improve the homogeneity of the wake into the propeller by reducing the amount of separation over the stern of the vessel.
●
Accelerate the wake into the upper region of propeller which improves the propulsion efficiency.
●
Improve the hull efficiency by changing the interaction between hull and propeller.
